Note: If there is a tie in the Team Standings at the time of a payout, the lowest net score from the night will win the tie. If the teams tie the low team net from the night, the previous weeks team low net will be used and so on until a tie is broken.
PLAYER HANDICAP SYSTEM
Each player’s handicap will be determined from their last 6 league scores with the two highest of the 6 scores being taken out of the equation.
Each team will have an “A” player and a “B” player determined by the player’s handicap for that week. You are not locked into being the “A” or “B” player for the season, it is determined weekly.
WEEKLY POINT SCORING SYSTEM
The two “A” players will play against each other head to head and the two “B” players will play against each other head to head using the player’s handicap and score (net score).
Each “A” and “B” player match has 1 point available per hole = 9 total points per player match (if the players tie a hole, a half point will be awarded to each player.)
The team that wins the low team net (team scores with team handicaps) = 4 points (if the teams tie, 2 points will be awarded to each team)
There are a total of 22 points available for each team to win each week.
A running total of the each team’s points will be kept each week to create a team standings. Those team standings will determine the prize payouts.
WHEN A TEAM PLAYER NEEDS TO MISS A WEEK
If a team player(s) needs to miss a week, a substitute player(s) may be used and is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. The substitute player must have a handicap recorded with the league.
If there are any combination of player(s) missing from a team and no substitute player is used, the course scorecard will be used for the missing player.
The course scorecard is treated as a player with a -3 handicap who makes a par on every hole.
For example, if a player who is a 7 handicap plays against the scorecard, the player will receive 10 strokes against the PAR of the course scorecard(7+3).
The player playing the scorecard has to earn his points. THE SCORECARD FOR A MISSING PLAYER CANNOT EARN ANY POINTS FOR THE TEAM.
It is VERY IMPORTANT to have a sub lined up for the days you cannot make the league.
PLAYING HOLES BEFORE LEAGUE PLAY
If you want to play golf before your league round, the Berkleigh Golf Club will give you a discounted rate of $10 dollars to play 9-holes after 2:30. You must start on the front nine so you do not disturb the remainder of the day’s rounds finishing on the back nine.
It is very important that you plan your practice time keeping in mind that you need to be at your assigned starting hole 5 minutes before the shot gun start time.
SCORECARD
The night before league play, I will send out in an email with the scorecards for the next nights league play.
With Covid still lingering, the scorecards will be handled the same as last year with you printing the scorecard for your team and then sending a photo of the scorecard to me after the round to my cell; 610-451-1222. PLEASE send the photo of your scorecards to me immediately so I can get the website updated in a timely fashion.
The scorecard that you receive will already have your names and the names of the team you are playing listed in the proper “A” or “B” position. The players handicap will be displayed and any strokes given to a player will be indicated with a number as well. If you don’t understand or have any questions about the scorecard, just fill in your actual score for each individual hole in the indicated area and we can go over the scorecard after the event. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you fill your score in for EVERY hole CLEARLY. Please DO NOT mark up the scorecard you hand in at the end of the night with any other markings besides the scores for EVERY hole and your TOTAL SCORE.
If you reach triple bogey on any hole before you hole out, pick up your ball and indicate that you picked up by placing one more stroke than triple bogey on the scorecard for that hole. If you hole out reaching triple bogey on the hole, indicate the triple bogey score as normal.
- Par 3: The pickup triple bogey score is 7. The hole out triple bogey score is 6
- Par 4: The pickup triple bogey score is 8. The hole out triple bogey score is 7
- Par 5: The pickup triple bogey score is 9. The hole out triple bogey score is 8
TEE BOX COLOR SELECTION
- If a player is 60 years old at anytime during the season, they may play from the gold tees
- Females may play from the red tees
- All other players must use the white tees.
If you are eligible to choose what tee location you want to play from, a tee location MUST BE decided before week 1 and it MUST STAY the same for the entire season. No moving tee locations throughout the season.
RULES FOR OUT ON THE COURSE
LEAGUE INTEGRITY:
Players should always respect the game of golf, the Berkleigh Golf Club and their employees as well as the other league members by being honest, playing by the rules, and being courteous.
WINTER RULES APPLY:
To help keep play moving, winter rules will apply throughout the entire season. This means using a player may move their ball 6 inches in any direction from where the ball lies. NOTE: Winter rules do not apply in the sand trap.
FREE DROP AREAS:
A free drop (no penalty stroke) will be allowed under the following conditions:
- Temporary standing water
- Cart paths
- Man-made obstacles
- Bare ground / dirt
- Ground under repair
The free drop can be two club lengths from the obstacle. If the drop is from a sand trap, the ball MUST stay in the sand trap unless the trap is completely filled with water. A hard packed sand trap IS NOT considered an obstacle to warrant a free drop.
SAND TRAP RULES:
If a ball is laying in someone’s non raked foot print / divot / hard packed sand, etc, rake-and-place is allowed. Please help avoid these situations by raking the sand after playing from it.
OUT OF BOUNDS:
If a player hits a ball out of bounds, the player must drop a ball within two club lengths from the spot that the ball went out of bounds. One penalty stroke will apply. Provisional shots are not permitted.
OVER A HAZARD:
If a player hits a ball into a hazard while attempting to go over the hazard, the player must drop a ball two club lengths behind the hazard at the line of entry the ball went into the hazard. One penalty stroke will apply. Provisional shots are not permitted.
WATER HAZARDS:
If a player’s ball lands in a water hazard, place the ball at the point of entry of the water. One penalty stroke will apply. Provisional shots are not permitted.
UNPLAYABLE LIES:
If a player’s ball comes to rest against a tree or some equally undesirable location such as the middle of a bush, the player must decide if the ball is playable or not. If the player decides the ball is playable, it MUST BE played from that spot. If the player decides it is an unplayable lie, the player must drop a ball two club lengths from where the ball lies no closer to the hole OR in a straight line backwards as far as they want from an extended line from the flag to the ball. One penalty stroke will apply. Provisional shots are not permitted.
A PRESUMED LOST BALL:
After searching for a ball presumed in play for a maximum of 2 minutes, a ball must be declared lost. The player must drop a ball from the spot the ball is presumed lost per the decision that the group agrees on. One penalty stroke will apply. Provisional shots are not permitted. After the dropped ball is hit, even if the presumed lost ball is found, it MAY NOT be used and the penalty stroke will still apply.
RAIN / WEATHER ISSUES BEFORE AND DURING PLAY
This one is pretty simple. If the Berkleigh Golf Club deems the course open for play, the league WILL NOT cancel.
This is not a league decision.
If the league is cancelled, a TEXT ALERT will be sent out as soon as possible. If you do not receive a TEXT ALERT, the league is planning on playing and it is advised that you show up to the course.
In the event we start to play and it rains before we complete 9 holes, the Berkleigh Golf Club will decide if they need to call the league in. If you come in on your own without a TEXT ALERT, you will receive the maximum score of triple bogey plus one stroke on the holes that you did not play.
If the league is cancelled before we get all nine holes in, (1 hole or 8 holes), the Berkleigh Golf Club has agreed to give us a $10 rain check for the following week. No points will be awarded for any of the holes played. The league must complete all 9 holes for the scores to count.
